CHATEAU PUNIN begins a fresh phase for Cyprus wine production
Punin Group is glad to announce a significant development taking place at CHATEAU PUNIN in the Parekklisia area. The estate recently held a gathering to mark the moment the first Pinot Noir vines were put into the ground. This initiative represents a large scale effort to demonstrate exactly what the soil in this region can achieve when it comes to viticulture.

You could tell how much this day meant by looking at the guest list. Several high ranking officials attended, such as Andreas Grigoriou, who serves as the General Manager of the Ministry of Agriculture, along with Stelios Tsioustas from the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry. Elina Christofidou representing the Ministry of Tourism also made an appearance. The presence of these figures makes it clear that CHATEAU PUNIN plays a big role in advancing the standards for premium wine and attracting visitors to the island for wine related travel.

During the ceremony, Dona Hadjiantonas, the Estate Manager, shared details about the winery’s background which starts all the way back in 2004. In addition to her talk, Project Manager Andrey Savchenko explained the core philosophy behind the work at CHATEAU PUNIN. He described the process of finding the right balance between the local earth and the demanding requirements of Pinot Noir grapes. This particular variety has a reputation for being one of the hardest and most fragile types of grapes to grow in any part of the world. The day came to a close when the founder of Punin Group, Dmitriy Punin, personally planted the first vine. Soon after, various partners and attendees took part in the planting process as well.

“We are doing more than just putting Pinot Noir vines into the Cyprus soil today, because we are actually starting something meant to endure for generations,” Dmitriy Punin remarked. “Our strategy does not involve chasing fast money, but instead we want to build something with lasting worth. It is our belief that Cyprus can earn a reputation that goes beyond just being a hub for business or a holiday spot. We want it to be recognized as a location where people find genuine expertise and incredibly high levels of quality.”

Trying to grow Pinot Noir in the Cyprus climate is a tough job that requires specific technical equipment and a serious commitment to looking after the environment. At CHATEAU PUNIN, the team combines age old traditions with modern techniques so they can produce wines that offer plenty of character and a solid foundation.

While the vineyard itself is still a work in progress, the estate has already opened its doors to anyone who appreciates a scenic setting. CHATEAU PUNIN serves as a fine location for corporate gatherings, private celebrations, weddings, and other types of parties. It is a setting where the local heritage blends with the art of winemaking. Through the use of up to date machinery and a deep appreciation for the natural environment, CHATEAU PUNIN remains dedicated to its mission of putting Cyprus on the map for wine lovers across the globe.
